On 9 September 2022, Punya Foundation Nepal distributed scholarships to 25 poor and vulnerable children in Dhading District in Nepal. Punya Foundation has been providing scholarships in Dhading district since the devastating earthquakes of 2015.
The program was organised at the Ganga Jamuna Rural Municipality-4 in Dhading. Mr Chuda Mani Poudel, the Director General of Education, Development and Human Resource was the chief guest. Mr Yam Bahadur Khadka (Chief of Education Department for Dhading district), Mr Khem Rizal (Director of Language and Culture, Punya Foundation, USA), Professor Dr Kashi Raj Pandey (Kathmandu University) and Ms Ajita Simkhada (Founder President of Nepalese Nursing Association, UK) were the special guests of the program. Mr Sudarshan Simkhada (Vice President of Punya Foundation Nepal) coordinate the scholarship distribution session. The scholarship distribution team was welcomed by local residents and students performed cultural programs.
The scholarship package consists of school fees, stationaries required for the academic session, 2 pair of shoes, a set of shocks, school uniform and a pair of track suit. Twenty-five students received the scholarships.
Mr Poudel appreciated the scholarship initiative and continuity given by Punya Foundation. Special guests emphasised the important of education. Mr Rizal said, “though we are unable to support all needy students with their education, we are doing what is possible. It will make difference in the life of few students who receive our support”. Scholarship recipients and their parents expressed gratefulness to Punya Foundation team.
Mr Mohan Niraula, President Punya Foundation Nepal stated, “we are here for the 7th year in a row and our effort will continue to help vulnerable children with their education”. He thanked the chief guest, special guests, schoolteachers, school management committee, VDC chairman, Punya Foundation’s volunteers and all donors for giving continuity to the program.
