In 2015, the Punya Foundation established a partnership with The School Management Committee Federation of Nepal (SMC Federation) to implement a project targeting to empower the children living in the earthquake hit districts in Nepal through provision of scholarships for their education and to help them become independent. To start with, the scholarships shall be provided to children who lost at least one of their parents during earthquakes of April and May 2015 in Nepal.
The SMC Federation is registered under the Social Organization Act 2034 B.S. at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu. The SMC Federation has been established and registered based on need and on the recommendation of the Ministry of Education, Department of Education, District Education Office and District Development Committee.
The SMC Federation works with a vision of developing effective, accountable and skilled management committee by establishing good governance system among Community School Management Committees throughout the country. The Federation works as a non-profitable and service oriented organization and is a common umbrella organization of approximately 30 thousand community school management committees.
