The Maha Yagya, held from May 4 to 10, 2025, in Munno Para Downs, concluded with overwhelming success—raising over $1 million towards the construction of a Mandir and cultural centre. This spiritually uplifting, weeklong event united the local Nepali-speaking community through devotion, service, and collective purpose.
The event was officially inaugurated by Mayor Glenn Docherty of the City of Playford, who offered his best wishes and recognized the cultural and spiritual importance of the initiative. His presence underscored strong civic support for the community’s vision.
Throughout the week, attendees were deeply moved by prabachans delivered by Swami Khagendra and Pundit Santi Ram Upadhaya Dhakal. Their sessions fostered deep reflection and connection. On the 3rd and 4th days, Bidushi Krishna Pokhrel from Albury enriched the gathering with her insightful discourses and engaging bhajans. Daily puja and hom were led with devotion by Mr Bashu Dev Khatiwada, Mr Narayan Khatiwada, Mr Narad Subedi, Mr Khim Lal Subedi, Mr Nanda Lal Adhikari, Mr Deo Narayan Adhikari, Mr Chabi lal Dabadi and Mr Tika Sapkota. Their unwavering commitment was instrumental in maintaining the spiritual sanctity of the event.
A central highlight was the Bhumi Daan Sankalpa, which brought together over 150 participants to assembling around through the spiritual course of the sankalpa process. This sacred act of land dedication stood as a testament to the community’s devotion and shared aspirations. With more than 2,000 attendees across the week, the Maha Yagya became one of the largest spiritual gatherings ever hosted by the Nepali-speaking community in the region.
Guests of honour included the Honourable Matt Burnell MP, the President of the Lions Club, a Member Commissioner from the Multicultural Commission, and several generous sponsors—all of whom voiced strong support for the Mandir project.
The cultural program brought vibrant energy to the Yagya, featuring traditional and spiritual dances, as well as heartfelt devotional music. Special thanks go to Mr. Bhagawat Neopaney, various kirtan mandalis, and the Nepali Bhajan Kirtan Samuha Adelaide Inc. for their memorable performances.
The concluding ceremony was elegantly hosted by Mr. Kashi Adhikari and Mr. Narayan Bhattarai. Ms. Pabitra Dahal offered a heartfelt welcome to donors, volunteers, and guests, expressing the community’s deep gratitude.
Hon. Matt Burnell MP once again affirmed his solidarity with the Hindu community and the Mandir vision. Dr. Laksmi Prasad Dhakal outlined future strategic plans, including the development of a Spirituality Park and Ashram to serve as ongoing pillars of spiritual and cultural enrichment. Mr. Hari Sharma, Coordinator of the Maha Yagya Management Committee, delivered a moving vote of thanks, honouring the dedication of all donors, volunteers, and participants. A special acknowledgment was given to the many female volunteers who worked tirelessly in the kitchen and ensured the well-being of thousands of guests.
