
Hindu community gathered with devotion and enthusiasm to celebrate Krishna Janma Astami on 16 August 2024 in Salisbury. The event, organised by the Foundation and Mandir Construction Committee, was both a religious celebration and an opportunity for community interaction, while also sharing important updates on the Mandir project in South Australia.
The program began with spiritually uplifting puja led by Pundit Somnath Bhattarai and Pundit Basudev Khatiwada. This was followed by prabachan by Pundit Santiram Upadhaya Dhakal, who reflected on the significance of the day and its relevance to community life. Soulful bhajans was led by Mr Bhagawat Neopaney and team.
The preparation of the prasad was led by Mr Hem Adhikari, Mr Nanda Lal Adhikari and team brought a warm sense of togetherness among participants.
Mr Kashi Adhikari, CEO of Punya Foundation, highlighted the importance of unity and gave an update on the Mandir project. Key milestones included the land title transfer occurred on 15 July 2025, a council meeting with the mayor and senior staff on 29 July 2025 where advice was given to proceed with the application, stakeholder consultations with engineers, architects and planners on 4 August 2025, and a community consultation on 6 August 2025 to discuss the type of Mandir and finalise the preliminary design. These steps are leading towards the preparation and submission of the application. Mr Hari Sharma, Coordinator of the Mandir Construction Committee, further explained the progress, fundraising efforts, and called for unity to turn the vision of the Mandir into reality.
After the celebration of Krishna Janma Astami, the gathering will continue with joy and celebration of Teej entertainment program led by Ms Pabitra Dahal and team, adding music, dance and cultural vibrancy to the evening.
