On May 3, 2025, the quiet suburb of Munno Para Downs in South Australia transformed into a vibrant spiritual hub as it hosted Australia’s first-ever Kalash Yatra — a sacred procession deeply rooted in Hindu tradition. Organised by the Punya Foundation and the Maha Yagya Management Committee, this landmark event marked the beginning of a week-long Maha Yagya and fundraiser to support the construction of a Mandir and broader community center in the region.

The event drew over 350 participants, including children, elders, and community leaders. Among the honoured attendees was Swami Khagendra Neopane, whose spiritual guidance elevated the occasion. The Kalash Yatra, held at 32 De Mannu Road, Munno Para Downs, saw devotees carrying kalash symbolising an invitation for divine presence and blessings.

This historic gathering was not only a celebration of faith but also a powerful show of unity and cultural pride. The lively streets of Munno Para Downs echoed with devotional chants, music, and the collective hopes to establish a permanent spiritual and cultural sanctuary.

The Maha Yagya commences on May 4 and continues through May 10, serving as a fundraising initiative for acquiring land and beginning the Mandir’s construction. The temple is envisioned as a vital community space that will host religious services, cultural programs, and educational activities for future generations.

The success of this inaugural Kalash Yatra in Munno Para Downs signifies a profound moment in Australia’s multicultural narrative. It highlights the community’s dedication to preserving tradition while building a foundation for spiritual and cultural growth in South Australia.

The Yagya Management Committee comprising of Mr Hari Sharma – coordinator, Mr Narayan Bhattarai, Mr Dilli Dahal, Pundit Santi Ram Upadhaya, Mr Tara Gautam, Mr Chakrasan Bhattarai, Mr Hari Adhikari, Mr Kashi Adhikari, Ms Yog Maya Bhattarai and Ms Pabitra Dahal engaged a number of volunteers to make this fist ever program a grand success.
