Appreciating service of the volunteer firefighters and to extent moral support to their selfless sacrifice to the community, Punya Foundation Inc. supporters reached to Oakdale Rural Fire Brigade base.
Sam Pokhrel led a six-man-team representing the Foundation. Rest of the team consisted of Madhav Nepal, Shyam Nepal, Buddha Dabadi, Krishna Gautam and Saroj Bhattarai. Puskar Poudyal, Community Engagement Officer of the Foundation helped to established contacts and collaboration.
Dinner packages were distributed to around 25 firefighters. Sam Pokhrel handed over a letter of appreciation to the brigade team. Referring to the Foundation’s supporters, deputy captain of the brigade, Mrs Merrilee Russell said, “They were so welcomed, appreciated and brought such happiness”. Captain of the brigade, Mr Mick Webber reported, “The stomachs are filled and smiles returning”. The firefighting volunteers expressed thanks to the Foundation and its volunteers for warm meal and for boosting their morale. Oakdale Rural Fire Brigade’s Facebook post reads, “Oakdale had a great surprise upon returning to station tonight, we were greeted by members of the Punya Foundation inc who provided hot Pizzas and Cold drinks. They have been watching the fire in our area evolve and wished to assist.”
Punya Foundation Inc. ran a fund-raising drive for a week to support bushfire disaster. This is one of the initiatives of a young, resettled migrant community from Bhutan. The Foundation is looking for similar other avenues to extend its support. The Foundation thanks the team of six supporters for reaching out to the inferno sites, serving the firefighters with meals and for joining hands during hours of need. Niraj Dhakal deserves appreciations for linking emergency fund access.
