Food safety training for the community

The city of Playford Council organised a food safety training on March 4 2019 at 12 Bishopstone Road, Davoren Park, South Australia. Training was facilitated by two of the council‘s Food Safety Inspectors.

Mr. Kashi Adhikari, Director of Program, Punya Foundation, Australia along with Mr. Til Gurung, Mr Sa Magar, Ms Hema Bajgai, Ms Ishwara Dulal, Ms Laxmi Gautam attended the program from Bhutanese-Australian community members. The objectives of the food safety training program were

  1. to provide current information on food safety principles and act 2001
  2. to remind food handlers of their responsibilities to provide safe food and beverages
  3. to develop an appreciation on the intent of legislation

During the training, the inspectors highlighted on potentially hazardous food (PHFS) and food handling techniques. Further, a wide range of food safety related topics were covered, among others, manufacturing, producing, collecting, extracting, processing, storing, transportation, delivering, treating, preserving, packing, cooking, thawing, serving and displaying food.

The participants found the training very useful and practical. Majority of the participants expressed having acquired skills and knowledge to deal with food safety in any community events as well as for small-scale business purposes.

Mr Adhikari reported similar trainings are essential for the community. He further recommends the training to the community members as it is very useful for community events or personal domestic situations.

At the end of the session, participants were awarded with a food safety training certificate. Punya Foundation appreciates the council of Playford for organising the training and opportunity.
