Foundation in collaboration with the Albury Wodonga Multicultural Community Events (AWMCE) organised COVID-19 relief package distribution program on 26 December 2020. Emergency relief food package distribution program was sponsored by the Multicultural Communities Program, CALD Communities Taskforce. The Distribution took place at Cube Courtyard in Wodonga.
The current COVID-19 restrictions and the boarder closure required the participants’ attendance to be phased and spaced out. The distribution observed social distancing and use of PPEs.
Program hosts Ms Bhawana Shrestha and Mr Sajan Thapa welcomed the guests and package recipients. Today’s distribution session was attended by the representatives of government agencies, police department, multicultural community organisations, youth groups, international students and community members. Councillor Graeme Simpfendorfer appreciated the program organisers and conveyed greetings and appreciations from Mr Mark Dixon, the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Wodonga. Dr Lakshmi Prasad Dhakal, Founder and Executive Director of Punya Foundation attended the program.
185 packages were distributed today. Each package consisted of daily food items – rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, wheat flour, eggs, etc. Owing to holiday seasons and market closure, the organisers didn’t manage to include perishable items like green vegetables unliked planned.
The second session will resume tomorrow, the 27 December at 10 am. Punya Foundation thanks AWMCE coordinators Mr Durga Bhattarai and Mr Om Guragai for their above and beyond performance. Similarly, all AWMCE volunteers, program hosts, multicultural community leaders, and guests deserve an applause for making the program successful.
