SCHOLARSHIP – MODALITY AND DETAILS
1.1 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
1.1.1 All school going children of those individuals who are murdered in detention centre or in prison, or in street while raising voice for human rights and democracy are eligible to contest for this scholarship.
1.1.2 All school going children of those political prisoners who are serving prison sentence are eligible to contest for this scholarship.
1.1.3 Children born following rape of political prisoners in the prison are eligible to contest for this scholarship.
1.1.4 All school going children of those individuals who are kidnapped or detained and thereafter his/her whereabouts is not known despite considerable effort to trace him/her.
1.1.5 In rare instance (s) shall vulnerable children be eligible for the scholarship. A vulnerable child is one who falls under one of these categories – has no support system, whose parents are victims of political injustice, is deprived of rights to education or has no means to accomplish it, and one who is displaced within the country or forcefully exiled.
1.1.6 A candidate who claims eligibility on ground of his/her parents being murdered in detention centre, prison, or while campaigning for human rights and democracy or disappeared or imprisoned wherever possible needs to show an evidence. The evidence can be obtained from an international organisation like Amnesty International, Red Cross, etc or a credible national organisation like national human rights council/commission, etc. If this is not possible, a candidate needs to explain in the motivation letter.
1.1.7 He/she shall be willing to produce the recent academic certificates
1.1.8 He/she shall be willing to obtain and fill the scholarship form as completely as possible
1.1.9 He/she shall be willing to study in school/college, that charges reasonable tuition fees, in their own locality, unless otherwise for security reasons.
1.1.10 He/she shall be a hardworking student and serious with his/her studies
1.1.11 He/she shall be willing to write an academic report on study progress every 6 months over his/her study. In case of under age children, their guardians can help them.
1.1.12 An academic progress report mentioned in 1.1.11 approved by the principal/head teacher shall be a plus point, however, it is not obligatory.
1.2 SELECTION
1.2.1 The foundation shall be the highest authority to make decision on selection process. The decisions made shall be binding for the particular academic year.
1.2.2 The foundation shall give priority to primary and secondary level of education. However, all eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship.
1.2.3 The scholarship shall focus primarily on developing countries unless the foundation is convinced to do it otherwise.
1.2.4 The number of scholarship awards depends upon the amount of fund that the program can generate. The number can/may vary each year.
1.2.5 If needed, the selection shall be based on interviews. During the interview, a candidate must be able to produce all the documents (as outlined in 1.1) or explain otherwise why he/she is not in a position to produce it/them. In that case, the foundation shall reserve the right to test the candidate in a form of examination.
1.2.6 If the number of eligible applicants is more than the available fund, the selection shall be based on the gravity of the case, or the one who is found to be best eligible and deserving. The (previous) academic merits, family background, income of family and family structure will also be taken into consideration.
1.2.7 If an applicant is found to have acquired scholarship through a false means, the scholarship shall be withdrawn immediately. Recommendations and approvals from the particular individual/institute shall not be respected in future selection process, unless backed by satisfactory explanation/s.
1.2.8 A student who already has one or other type of scholarship or financial support shall not be eligible for this scholarship.
1.3 RENEWAL OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
1.3.1 Should have passed all the examinations of the particular academic year.
1.3.2 If a student fails one or more examinations, he/she shall get a single chance to clear all the papers, otherwise the scholarship shall not be renewed.
1.3.3 If he/she cannot clear all the exams, the scholarship shall be awarded to another candidate. In such situations, all the eligible students can contest for the scholarship. The selection process shall be as mentioned in 1.2
1.3.4 At the end of an academic year, a candidate needs to submit a short academic report. If the candidate wants to continue with the scholarship, in this academic report the scholarship renewal request needs to be done.
1.3.5 The foundation gives priority to primary and secondary level of education. If the renewal is for tertiary level of education, the foundation makes a decision on individual basis.
1.4 IMPLEMENTATION AND PAYMENT MODALITY
1.4.1 The scholarship program shall find a reliable local partner to implement it.
1.4.2 The local partner or responsible individuals shall make the payment to the institution/school or college directly. If due to one or other reasons, this is not possible, a student can claim the existing school/college/university admission/tuition fees.
1.4.3 Depending upon the availability of fund, the scholarship shall be just a token of support (e.g. purchasing of textbooks) to full academic support (ranging from payment of tuition fees, textbooks, etc). If the foundation is not able to generate sufficient fund(s), even the selected candidates have no rights to claim for the incurred costs and the payment made.
1.4.4 If a student is found to have misused the scholarship, the scholarship shall be withdrawn.
1.4.5 If a student takes part in group admission, for the sake of getting admission with a concession rate, he/she is still eligible to claim for the full tuition fees. He or she may use remaining amount for other purposes (e.g. to purchase text books).
1.4.6 The allowance to purchase reading materials (e.g. books) depends upon the amount of fund available.
1.4.7 Travel costs, living allowances and other material costs depend upon the availability of the fund. These are not the priorities of the program.
1.4.8 The scholarship shall not have health insurance and shall not cover health related expenditures.

- Fill the application in block letters
- Incomplete application, may not be processed. Try to fill the form as complete as possible. If one or more details in the form is/are not relevant to you, you may provide explanation/s.
- All relevant documents, if applicable recommendation letter (e.g. from human rights organisations – national and international, government authority – local, regional etc, or other credible institutes) need to be submitted with the application form.
- An application should be accompanied by a cover letter. It should not be more than 1000 words.
- You are responsible to identify the school/college yourself. However, you are advised to check the selection criteria.
- The scholarship is renewable. Your performance and progress shall determine this.
- The decision made by the foundation shall be binding in all issues.
- Clarification on some of the terminologies may be essential to fill the scholarship application form:
- Martyr: A person who dies for a cause or a belief. The mode of death could be due to torture or any forms of deprivation (e.g. food, water, etc) while in custody
- Prisoner: A person held in custody, captivity, detention, or a condition of forcible restraint while on trial or someone serving a prison sentence
- Disappeared person: A person kidnapped, abducted or taken into custody by state agents or by the groups waging armed struggle and there after whereabouts unknown
- Vulnerable children: A child who has no support system, whose parents are victims of political injustice and deprived of human rights and are/or are displaced or forcefully exiled.
