Mr Durga Budathoki with Family

Durga Budathoki was born in Chirang, Bhutan. He and his family members were the victims of eviction from Bhutan during early 1990s. He ended up in Nepal and spent two decades of his early life in Bhutanese Refugee Camp at Pathri. In the beginning, he helped to establish a school in the refugee camps and spent years teaching there. During his time in the camp, he completed his masters in English from Tribhuwan University.

Mr. Budathoki opted for third country resettlement and moved to USA in April, 2008. Since then, he has been living in Fort Worth, Texas with his family. He faced a lot of challenges in the early phase of resettlement. Now he is well integrated into the American community and has developed a strong sense of giving back or helping those who really deserve. With a new hope and a new beginning, he started rebuilding life from the ground, aspiring to work hard each day and making efforts to reshape life for the better. He was actively involved in the formation of a community organisation and helped guide its activities and services. He proudly recalls the time he and his wife, Prem Budathoki dedicated for the community services in the initial phase of resettlement.

Mr. Budathoki runs a small family business besides working for a logistic company. He and his wife have three wonderful children. All of them are doing well with their studies. They are working hard every single day to make their American Dream come true. Looking back through the hardships, he and his fellow community members had gone and well connected with the spirit and the value of helping others, he offers to help Phur Dolma Sherpa.

My name is Phur Dolma Sherpa. I am 17 years old. I am originally from Gokulganga Rural Municipality ward-03, Ramechhap district. I live in Patan Dhoka, Lalitpur with my parents. I am a grade 11 student of management at Tri- Padma Vidyashram Secondary School, Lalitpur, Nepal. I have one elder sister and one younger brother. My sister is studying BASW. My younger brother is suffering from brain tumor, and it has not cured yet since 3 and half years. He is under treatment. Professionally my father is an ex-retired army but due to depression he is also under treatment since the last few years. So, my mom is handling everything for now. She works as a cleaner in different people’s houses to manage our financial needs. It is a government college and now I have to pay school fee, uniform, stationery and school extra activities. It is becoming hard to manage this. I am desperately looking for support so that I can complete my study. Thank you.
