Canada Team Organises a Cultural Event: Breaks COVID-19 Pandemic Silence

Mr Suman Adhikari, a progressive Nepali youth from Birtamod Nepal, currently a resident of Winnipeg, Canada was brainstorming to organise a cultural program. Whilst looking for a good will wider collaboration, Mr Adhikari reached out to Mr Shyam Ghimire, President of Punya Foundation Canada. The partnership matured leading to a cultural event on 2 July 2022. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, Winnipeg had not observed any major Nepali cultural event.

The organising team took the window opportunity aiming to address long-drawn stress among the Nepalese community and to promote the mental well-being through networking. The program took place at the Norbert Community Centre, Pembina in Winnipeg.

Master of the ceremony, Ms Shreya Parajuli and Mr Ram Krishna Bharati, invited guests and participants to take their seats. Mr Tara Subedi, an activist and social worker, welcomed the guests and participants. Mr Tika Adhikari, introduced Punya Foundation, its activities and wished all participants an entertaining night.
Mr Pramod Kharel, the renowned Nepali singer was welcomed by Punya Foundation team, Mr Krishna Neupane (NRNA President) and Mr Chitra Pradha and Manika Pradhan (Eat on Samosa). Mr Kharel’s performance entertained the crowd. A number of local artists including Ms Sophie Dahal, Mr Ben Subedi, Mr Biplav Subedi, Mr Rajesh Panta, Mr Dil Kumar Subedi, Mr Nabin Katel, Mr Sameer Moktan and Mr Ratna Tiwari presented their arts and received huge applause from the audience. Similarly, Mr Arpan Shiwakoti, Mr Man Thapa, Mr Tufan Gautam and Mr Biplav Subedi’s performance hit the floor and got people dancing.

The event was attended by more than 150 participants. The participants received the program very well and thanked the organisers. The program was supported by Ms Lila Adhikari (Realtor, MaxPro Real Estate), Mr Dilli Sapkota (Driving Instructor, Everest Driving School), and Mr Chitra and Manika Pradhan (Proprietors, Eat on Samosa).

Mr Shyam Ghimire gave vote of thanks. He thanked Mr Pramod Kharel for accepting the invitation and for his performance. Mr Ghimire also thanked all guests and participants for their attendance. He particularly thanked Mr Suman Adhikari for opportunity and collaboration with Punya Foundation. Special thanks and appreciations were bestowed on to Mr Nabin Katel and Mr Amber Dahal for their coordination and hard work. All volunteers were recognised for their contribution to make the program successful.
