“My brother and I have decided to donate some money, to help at least a child through the year for his or her education.” Sadikcha commits, “we have decided to save money given to us during our birthdays and we will keep aside gifts we receive during festivals to support a child.”

Sadikcha Dahal, 15 years and her brother Ayush 11 years live in Adelaide, Australia. They were born in Godhap Bhutanese refugee camps located in eastern Nepal. Gradually, they are realising that their parents were granted visa 200 by Australian Government. They came to Australia as dependents when Ayush was 1 and Sadikcha 5 years respectively.

Sadikcha adds, “while in Nepal, I was still quite small, all I knew was that my parents fled their home country Bhutan because of some political issue. My parents tell me, while in Bhutan my father was living in a small village called Gopini in Chirang district and my mother in Surey, Bhutan.”

Recently, Sadikcha, Ayush and her parents travelled back to Nepal on a family trip. “My brother and I saw many things that we didn’t realise were going on around the world; especially in Nepal and India. We saw many children didn’t have opportunity to proper education and to chase their dreams. This all because of poverty. My brother and I had never quite realised how lucky we were to have such a great life and education in Australia”.

“Our trip to Nepal gave us a greater understanding and made us realise we need to help people in need. We decided to connect back to our roots and help educate at least a child with his or her education. Ayush and I take the opportunity to thank Australia for adopting us, our parents for taking us to Nepal and opening our eyes beyond self and Punya Foundation Inc. for the opportunity to contribute to education of poor and vulnerable children.”
