A Shradhanjali Sabha was held today, 6 September 2026, at Salisbury, South Australia, to honour those who lost their lives in the devastating floods in Nepal and to express solidarity with affected families and communities.
The programme was organised by Punya Foundation in collaboration with the Non-Resident Nepali Association Australia, Nepali Bhajan Kirtan Samuha Adelaide, Adelaide Nepalese Society Australia, Saathi TV, Dainiki and other community organisations. The gathering brought together community members, leaders and supporters in a solemn atmosphere of remembrance, prayer, compassion and solidarity.
The programme was facilitated by Mr Puskar Poudyal, with a welcome address by Mr Kashi Adhikari, CEO of Punya Foundation. Representatives of the Nepalese community, including Mr Ramesh Joshi, Mr Achut Dhamala and Mr Thir Gurung, expressed their views and solidarity with those affected. Mr Bharat Adhikari, who lost close family relatives in the floods, shared his personal experience and expressed his grief and concern for other affected families.
Hon Zoe Bettison, MP, and Ms Gillian Aldridge, Mayor of Salisbury, attended the programme and expressed their condolences and support. Mr Alan Nelson from Lions Club Paralowie and Mr Hari Sharma from Lions Club Angle Vale also shared their support for the relief and recovery efforts.
Acharya Santiram Upadhaya Dhakal led the recitation of Vishnu Sahasranaam, creating a deeply spiritual and reflective atmosphere. The programme included prayers and moments of silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives.
The names of donors who had contributed to the flood relief effort were also read out with appreciation. Fundraising for Nepal flood relief and recovery will continue until 13 September 2026. Further donations are warmly welcomed. The Sabha concluded with prayers for the departed souls, strength and healing for survivors and affected families, and peace and compassion for all.
