Tara Sapkota lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA with his wife and three sons. He was born and brought up in Damphu, Bhutan. Mr. Sapkota spent 18 years in the Refugee Camp in Nepal. When Mr. Sapkota was just a year old, his father expired. At seven years of age, his mother got married and started living with stepfather. Mr. Sapkota has gone through extremes in his life. Due to political turmoils in Bhutan, along with huge section of his village population, he left Bhutan along with his cousin brothers who have been taking care of him leaving his mother behind in Bhutan. In the refugee camps in Nepal, Mr. Sapkota lived with his cousin brothers. His cousin brothers took care of him and fulfilled responsibilities of guardian. Mr. Sapkota says, “I was raised as an orphan and I know how difficult it is to make a living not to mention about going to school and to pursue studies. So I want help those who are going through what I have experienced”.

Though the Sapkota family’s wished to have a girl child in their family, they have been blessed with 3 sons. The family feels fortunate of having been matched to sponsor a girl child and they feel that their wishes are fulfilled.

Meera, 13, from Batase VDC, Ward No. 1, Sindupalchwok in Mid Development Region in Nepal, is a student of class 8. Meera has passed her grade 7 examination from Shree Kalika Devi Higher Secondary School, Batase-4. She wants to complete higher secondary level. Her parents are disabiled and her brother Narayan Thapa had been their breadwinner. Unfortunately, her brother died during the earthquake of April 2015. In addition, their house collapsed.
